The topic of this thesis is the pilot project of the foot and bicycle path running along the Jõhvi – Vasknarva national road no 32 on kilometers 10.34-11.54 in Kurtna village, Illuka municipality. Illuka municipality’s detailed plan is the basis for compiling the foot and bicycle path pilot project in Kurtna village. The pilot project was ordered by Illuka municipality government. Kurtna village is situated in Illuka municipality, Ida-Viru county, next to the Jõhvi – Vasknarva national road no 32. The distance from Jõhvi is 10.3 km. As of 2000 Kurtna village had a population of 206. At the moment the village does not have a foot and bicycle path allowing pedestrians and cyclists to travel safely to the bus station, store, library or youth center located at the center of the village and both cyclists and pedestrians are forced to use the driveway. For ensuring traffic safety the driving speed has been limited to 50 km/h on the road section between kilometers 10.8-11.1. Traffic density of Jõhvi – Vasknarva national road no 32 was 1813 cars per day in 2011 and the long-range traffic density of the described section could reach 2800 cars per day. This thesis has been compiled according to the initial task and the Illuka municipality detailed plan. Thesis presents one possible solution for the foot and bicycle path. The foot and bicycle paths in Kurtna village will be built in near future based on the project.
