Ülemiste veetorn

Käesolev lõputöö käsitleb Ülemiste veetorni taasäratamist, et muuta monofunktsionaalset linnaruumi mitmekülgsemaks.

Üheksateistkümnenda sajandi lõpus loodud Dvigateli alale ehitatud veetorni algne funktsioon oli tagada piisav veesurve tootmishoonetes. Aja möödudes linna infrastruktuuri uuendamise tõttu kaotas veetorn otstarbe. Mitukümmend aastat kasutuna seisnud torni ümbritsev olustik on aga aja möödudes olnud pidevas muutumises. Ehitise kitsa põhiplaani tõttu on keeruline leida uusi kasutusvõimalusi sarnastele objektidele, kuid analüüsides olemasolevat keskkonda on võimalik piirkonda tuua mitmekesisust.

Tänaseks on koondunud suur osa IT ja ka teistesse sektoritesse kuuluvaid ettevõtteid Ülemiste ärilinnakusse. Äri- ja tootmispindade suure osakaalu tõttu on linnak muutunud ebaatraktiivseks seal mittetöötavatele inimestele. Diplomitöö põhieesmärgiks on rikastada Ülemiste keskkonda luues ristkasutuslikku ruumi ning eksperimentaalselt äratada läbi selle huvi ka teistes linnaelanikes ja külastajates. Lisaks jääb kehtima mõtteviis, et kõige jätkusuutlikum on hoone, mis on juba ehitatud.

This thesis covers the restoration of the Ülemiste water tower in order to make an otherwise mono functional urban space more versatile.

The original function of the water tower built at the end of the nineteenth century on the Dvigatel site was to ensure sufficient water pressure in production buildings. Over time, due to the renewal of the city’s infrastructure, the water tower lost its purpose. However, the surrounding environment of the tower, which has been unused for several decades, has been constantly changing over time. Due to the narrow ground plan of the building, it is difficult to find new uses for these types of objects, but by analysing the existing environment, it is possible to bring diversity to the area.

Today, a large number of companies belonging to the IT as well as various other sectors are concentrated in the Ülemiste business district. Due to the large proportion of business and production premises, the district has become unattractive to people not working there. The main goal of the diploma thesis is to enrich the environment in Ülemiste by creating a cross-use space and through that experimentally arousing the interest of other residents and visitors. In addition, keeping the mindset that the most sustainable building is the one that has already been built.
